Actividad 7: El asesino del Jardín
Esta mañana han llamado a comisaria diciendo que ha aparecido un hombre muerto en mitad de un parque. La policía sólo sabe que el hombre se desplomó en esa zona del parque, pero no es la escena del crimen y necesitan encontrarla para resolver el caso. La única pista que tienen es que en el bolsillo de la camisa blanca de este hombre hay un petaca rota con alcohol y una mancha extraña en la tela.
En esta actividad, el alumnado se convierte en inspectores de policía, para averiguar que planta es la que genera ese patrón de pigmentos al mezclarse con el alcohol. Para ello, llevan a cabo distintas cromatografías de una serie de plantas que estaban en el parque, con el fin de identificar cual es la planta que genera esa mancha, pues será el lugar donde tuvo lugar el crimen. En el proceso de desarrollo de la actividad, el alumnado identifica y clasifica distintos tipos de plantas a través de una clave botánica.
Activity 7: The Garden Killer
This morning someone has called to the police station saying that a dead man has appeared in the middle of a park. Police only know that the man collapsed in that area of the park, but it is not the scene of the crime and they need to find it to solve the case. The only clue they have is that in the pocket of this man’s white shirt there is a broken bottle with alcohol and a strange stain on the cloth.
Students become inspectors in this activity where they have to find out which plant is the one that generates that pigment pattern when mixed with alcohol. Therefore, they carry out different chromatography of a series of plants that were in the park, in order to identify which is the plant that generates that stain as it is the place where the crime took place. In the process the students distinguish and classify different types of plants through an identification key.
