Actividad 8: Más pesado y poderoso de lo que parece
En esta actividad el alumnado se inicia en la actividad científica a través de dos experimentos relacionados con la atmosfera (formada mayoritariamente por oxígeno y nitrógeno) y la presión atmosférica. En el primero, se realiza un experimento en el que tapan con un recipiente una vela encendida que reposa en un plato con agua. El aire no es “vacío” sino que está formado por gases, materia en estado gaseoso. Uno de estos gases, el oxígeno, es el que permite que las cosas “ardan” (reactivo necesario en una reacción de combustión). Por su parte, en el segundo experimento, se busca una manera de reducir la presión del aire dentro de una lata, de tal forma que se genere una “implosión”.
Activity 8: Heavier and more powerful than its looks
In this activity the students introduce themselves in the scientific activity through two experiments related to the atmosphere (formed mainly by oxygen and nitrogen) and atmospheric pressure. In the first one, the students perform an experiment where they cover with a container a lit candle that rest on a plate where there is water. Air is not «empty» but consists of gases, matter in the gaseous state. One of these gases, the oxygen, is the one that allows things to «burn» (necessary reagent in a reaction of combustion). In the second experiment students look for a way to reduce the air pressure inside a can in such a way as to make an «implosion».
